Religious Communities and Organisations

Northumbria Community

The Community is geographically close and we maintain good links with them. They produced 'Celtic Daily Prayer', a collection of liturgies for use throughout the year.

Iona Community

The Iona Community, founded in 1938 by the Rev George MacLeod, is an ecumenical Christian community of men and women from different walks of life and different traditions in the Christian church that is committed to seeking new ways of living.

Keltisk Fromhet

A Norwegian Celtic Christian website with links to the Community of Aidan and Hilda, created by Las Verket and Harald Olsen.  Most of the site is Norwegian, but some of the links from it are to 'English' sites.

Othona Community - Bradwell-on-Sea

The Bradwell centre of Othona was founded in 1946, when some former British service men and women went camping together with refugees and internees, to try and rekindle a sense of fellowship and understanding.

Othona Community - Burton Bradstock

Welcome to the Othona Community at Burton Bradstock in the heart of the beautiful countryside of West Dorset, UK. Burton Bradstock is one of two centres belonging to the Othona Community, the other being the original centre at Bradwell on Sea, Essex.

Eleuthero

'Eleuthero' is ancient Greek and means 'to set free'. These guy's vision is that Christian faith becomes a robust, recognized resource and inspiration for the care and dignifying of the natural world and of vulnerable populations.

Their plan to found a retreat and study center for the exploration and development in solitude, in conversation, in community of the nexus of Christian spirituality with ecological care and social justice. Core members of Eleuthero will live into the vision by practicing lives of simplicity and wonder, community, spiritual disciplines, ecological care, and relationship with marginalized populations.

"Cowethas Peran Sans" - Cornish Celtic Christian fellowship

Cowethas Peran Sans is an ecumenical Cornish Christian fellowship whose members seek to understand and embody the spirituality of Cornwall's Celtic Saints, and to share this spirituality with others. Other aims of the fellowship include worshipping at Cornwall's Christian holy places, promoting Cornwall as a place of Christian pilgrimage, and using the Cornish language in prayer and worship. Members may choose to adopt a personal rule of life under supervision of a cothman y'n fedh (soul friend), the central theme of which should be to walk more gently upon this fragile earth. We are available to assist groups visiting Cornwall on Christian pilgrimage.

New Monasticism Network

This network has been created to promote collaboration around the world and in the UK, for those who are seeking to build ecclesial communities out of contextual mission, utilising a new monastic model. To sign up click here

Nashoba Grace Community Church

A community with an emphasis on communal prayer, living in 'K-Groups' (K stands for Koinonia), and with a deep respect for the beauty of creation. Check out their entry at our 'emerging church' section. (Click here)

Journeying

Journeying is an ecumenical Christian organisation based in Pembrokeshire and run by volunteers. Since 1987, through it's Journey Programme, the organisation has shared the challenge and joy of taking small groups to the more remote parts of Britain and Ireland in an ambience of Celtic spirituality.

Urban Seed

Urban Seed is a Christian not-for-profit organisation in Melbourne, Australia. We do street work, centred on Credo Café, have a residential community, run education programs with schools and other groups and advocacy work.

Celtic Circle

A celtic trail on Anglesey, looking at the history of several ancient churches. The website decribes each of the churches in the trail.

The World Community for Christian Meditation

WCCM is helping to introduce the ancient practices of contemplative prayer to the lay community. There are branches in most countries throughout the world. In the UK there are over 200 local christian meditation groups, you can visit the UK site here.

Lindisfarne Scriptorium

Taking spiritual and visual inspiration from the work of the monks who created wonderful books like the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells, we use modern materials and techniques of calligraphy, illumination and illustration. Our inspiration is also drawn from the rich Celtic Heritage spirituality of Northumbria, our Christian faith and the beautiful environment on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

BWS Long Playing Computer Graphics

A website with some excellent Celtic style graphics that can be used freely (on non-commercial sites). We use some of them on this website and thank the author for his generosity!

The Island Website

The Community of Aidan and Hilda has its base on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, so we are part of that community as well. The island has its own resident population who depend on a range of activities, particularly fishing, farming and tourism. If you are visiting the island for a Community of Aidan and Hilda event, we strongly recommend that if possible, you visit the other attractions on this island and support the local community.
